Business-related events planned throughout April and May (Released: 4/10/96)

STORRS, Conn. -- A series of events during the next four weeks sponsored by the University of Connecticut's School of Business Administration and the School of Engineering should provide some interesting material for business reporters in Connecticut and New England.

Here is a list and brief description of just a few of the items, so editors and reporters can mark their calendars. All events are open to the media. Complete press releases regarding many of the events will be forthcoming.

  • April 17: "Managed Care: New Challenges, New Perspectives," a three-part conference with one session held in each of the next three months. The first event in the series, sponsored by UConn's Center for Health Systems Management and Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Connecticut, is "The Next Competitive Wave: What Does it Hold for Connecticut's Health Plans, Hospitals and Physicians?" Blue Cross & Blue Shield headquarters, North Haven, 9 a.m. - noon.;
  • April 18: "Building Boards of Advisors and Outside Directors." Another "how-to" in a series of Family Business Program workshops. Radisson Hotel, Cromwell. 8:30-11:30 a.m.
  • April 18: "Emerging Business Opportunities for the Photonics Cluster," an interactive networking forum bringing together many of the region's leading photonics-related businesses. United Technologies Research Center, East Hartford, 8:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.;
  • April 22: Media briefing and Founding Partners meeting to unveil the latest edition of The Connecticut Economy: A University of Connecticut Quarterly Review. Centennial Alumni House, UConn- Storrs, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.;
  • May 1: Annual Thomas J. and Bette Wolff Family Program in Entrepreneurship Distinguished Lecture Series, featuring Mark McCormack, founder, chairman and CEO of International Management Group, a sports and entertainment conglomerate that represents more athletes than any other firm in the world. Jorgensen Auditorium, UConn- Storrs, 7 p.m.;
  • May 8: "Marketing on the Internet," a free program on how and why companies should use the Internet to market their services, both to other companies and the consumer. UConn Graduate Center, 2777 Summer St., Stamford. 8:30-11:30 a.m.;
  • May 8: Fifth Annual School of Business Administration Spring Awards Banquet, honoring Robert Kennedy, retired chairman and CEO of Union Carbide, as Connecticut Business Leader of the Year. Ethan Allen Inn, Danbury, 6 p.m.
