Festive welcome set for UConn freshmen (Released: 8/6/96)

STORRS, Conn. -- The University of Connecticut will offer a series of academic and social activities to welcome students to the Storrs campus and to help build a sense of community among students who are new to the University.
"We're adding special opportunities to welcome students and to help them connect with people," said M. Kevin Fahey, associate director of student activities and union programs, who chaired the planning committee for this year's Husky WOW -- Weeks of Welcome.
The program begins Sunday, Aug. 25, the day residence halls open. Members of UConn's fraternities and sororities will be available throughout the day to help new students move in, and most offices on campus will be open. Although the activities are intended primarily for freshmen, other students also are welcome.
Activities during the first week include:
The welcome will continue through Family Weekend, the first weekend in October.
Other events include an activities fair on Sept. 11, fraternity rush beginning Sept. 13, and a community service project Sept. 21.
