Dining Services wins award (Released: 8/7/96)

STORRS, Conn. -- The University of Connecticut Department of Dining Services has won one of six grand prizes at the annual conference of the National Association of College and University Food Services.

UConn's award was for catering a banquet for last year's confratute, a two-week conference for teachers and administrators on education for the gifted.

UConn won first prize for large schools and the grand prize for all schools in the "catering -- special event" category. Judging criteria include marketing, recipes and how the event fulfills the mission of the organization.

The awards were presented at the association's annual conference in Albuquerque, N.M., in July. Grand prizes also went to the University of Georgia, Harvard University, East Carolina University, Ashland University and University of Missouri-Columbia.
