Gales Ferry freshman wins Wal-Mart scholarship (Released: 8/8/96)

STORRS, Conn. -- Jennifer Ann Forque of Gales Ferry is one of two University of Connecticut freshmen to win a four-year, $20,000 scholarship from Wal-Mart Stores Inc.
The Wal-Mart Competitive Edge Scholarships are awarded to students pursuing degrees in science or technology.
Forque, the daughter of Thomas and Catherine Forque, plans to major in chemical engineering at UConn. She finished 14th out of a class of 244 at Ledyard High School.
The other UConn winner this year is Jennifer York of Bristol. She also plans to major in chemical engineering.
Wal-Mart this year awarded scholarships to about 240 students throughout the United States. The awards are for $5,000 a year for four years as long as the winners maintain a 3.0 grade-point average out of a possible 4.0.
