Bristol freshman wins Wal-Mart scholarship (Released: 8/8/96)

STORRS, Conn. -- Jennifer York of Bristol is one of two University of Connecticut freshmen to win a four-year, $20,000 scholarship from Wal-Mart Stores Inc.
The Wal-Mart Competitive Edge Scholarships are awarded to students are pursuing degrees in science or technology.
York, the daughter of Mary Pronovost, plans to major in chemical engineering at UConn. She finished sixth of a class of 190 at Bristol Central High School.
The other UConn winner this year is Jennifer Ann Forque of Gales Ferry. She also plans to major in chemical engineering.
Wal-Mart this year awarded scholarships to about 240 students throughout the United States. The awards are for $5,000 a year for four years as long as the winners maintain a 3.0 grade-point average out of a possible 4.0.
