STORRS, Conn. -- Michael H. Bellafiore of West Hartford has been elected a student member of the University of Connecticut Board of Trustees.
A third year student at the UConn School of Law, Bellafiore received a bachelor's degree from UConn in 1992, where he studied English literature.
From June 1992 to September 1994, Bellafiore was the clerk of Connecticut's Judiciary Committee for the Connecticut General Assembly and a legislative aide to then House Chairman Rep. Richard D. Tulisano. Presently, he is a law clerk at Horton, Shields & Cormier in Hartford, focusing on the practice of appellate law.
Bellafiore has highlighted the need for the University to produce highly trained graduates to revitalize the state's economy. He has called for tuition to be affordable while not sacrificing the quality of education. He has urged the board to continue communicating to the legislature the importance of investing in Connecticut's greatest natural resource -- the minds of its young students. He has also said that no decision regarding UConn should be considered final until the students have been given the opportunity to contribute their thoughts.
