CALENDAR ITEM: Jerry Brown to lecture April 24 (Release: 4/14/97)

STORRS, Conn. -- Former California governor and presidential candidate Jerry Brown will present a lecture to commemmorate Earth Week at the University of Connecticut on April 24.

Brown will deliver the Geib Distinguished Environmental Lecture for 1997, speaking on an "Environmental Agenda for a New Millenium" at noon in von der Mehden Recital Hall, 875 Coventry Road, on the Storrs campus. Attendance is free and open to the public. Brown will be available to speak to reporters at 11:45 a.m.

"This is a great honor to have former Gov. Brown, a distinguished and strong advocate for the environment, share his thoughts regarding the future direction of and the governonment's role in environmental issues," said Domenic Grasso, associate professor and director of environmental engineering at the University. "We are facing new challenges. As society evolves, we have new industrial processes and new environmental pollutants. We must develop sustainable technology so that we don't adversely impact future generations."
