STORRS, Conn. -- Chad Ellis of WOODSTOCK, a junior at the University of Connecticut majoring in secondary social studies in the School of Education, has been named a University Scholar, the highest academic honor the University bestows on undergraduate students.
Once selected, a University Scholar pursues an academic program tailored to his or her unique intellectual interests and abilities. Ellis plans to study the history of activism and mass movements for a University Scholar project on "Leadership and Activism" that will integrate education and history.
He also hopes to start a project to encourage high school students in Hartford to be active in their community by transforming a vacant lot into a community garden.
A graduate of Woodstock High School, Ellis hopes to pursue a career in teaching.
