STORRS, Conn. -- Michael Berger of North Branford, a junior at the University of Connecticut majoring in biology, has been named a University Scholar, the highest academic honor the University bestows on undergraduate students.
Once selected, a University Scholar is allowed to pursue an academic program tailored to his or her unique intellectual interests and abilities. Berger's University Scholar project is titled "When the Hunter Encounters the Hunted: Marine Aspects of Prey Preference," a study of the marine ecology of two species of snail.
Last summer Berger gained certification as a scientific diver by the UConn Marine Sciences and Technology Center. He hopes to pursue graduate studies in marine ecology.
Berger is a graduate of North Branford High School.
