STORRS, Conn. -- Dennis Gruell, greater Hartford regional director of the University of Connecticut-based Connecticut Small Business Development Center, has been named to lead the state-wide program.
Gruell, of West Hartford, replaces John P. OConnor, who retired in June after directing the program for 14 years.
"The Connecticut Small Business Development Center is a vital component in the Universitys economic development and business outreach mission. We are most pleased to have been able to appoint a state resident to head the organization. Dennis Gruell brings to the directors position a solid reputation in local business and academic circles for integrity and professionalism. He has a clear vision and plan for building the center into a major resource of technical and management assistance for small business owners. We look forward to working closely with him toward achieving that goal," said Thomas G. Gutteridge, dean of UConns School of Business Administration, in announcing the appointment.
Prior to assuming the new position, Gruell had served as director of the greater Hartford regional office. Before coming to the CSBDC, he was affiliated with Zayre/Ames department stores as a senior buyer, and with Gimbals department stores midwest division. He holds a bachelors degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and earned his masters degree in business administration from UConn.
The small business development center is a partnership between UConn and the U. S. Small Business Administration. It has six full-time and 10 part-time offices located throughout the state. Its mission is to promote the success and prosperity of Connecticuts small business community through business management counseling assistance and group training.
