UConn Marching Band hosts competition Oct. 4 (Released: date)

STORRS, Conn. -- The University of Connecticut Marching Band will host the U.S. Scholastic Band Association's New England Regional Marching Band Competition on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.

The competition features 10 high school marching bands from New England, and a special exhibition by the University of Connecticut Marching Band. Admission to the event is $8 at the gate.

The University of Connecticut Marching Band is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Often referred to as "The pride of Connecticut," the band performs at UConn home football games and was the first American college marching band to tour the European continent.

The UCMB has also entertained for the National Football League's Buffalo Bills, and New England Patriots at halftime, has provided the opening performance at Yankee Stadium for Game 1 of the 1996 World Series, and represented the State of Connecticut in the 1992 Presidential Inaugural Parade in Washington, D.C.

  • Fitch High School, Stonington
  • Montville High School, Montville
  • New London High School, New London
  • Killingly High School, Killingly
  • Norwich Free Academy , Norwich
  • Waterford High School, Waterford
  • Putnam High School, Putnam

Out of state schools include:

  • Blackstone-Melville Regional High School , Blackstone, Mass.
  • King Phillip Regional High School, Wrentham, Mass.
