Social Work Students Win Scholarships

STORRS, Conn. -- The University of Connecticut School of Social Work has awarded five different scholarships to local residents.

John Beazoglou, a first-year graduate student from WEST HARTFORD, has been awarded the Dana DeBiasi Scholarship. He is majoring in casework with a minor in administration, and is currently employed in the DCF Permanency and Adoption Unit.

Ubax Abdirisaq Hussen, a second-year graduate student from ROCKY HILL, has been awarded the Dr. Ivor Echols Scholarship. She is a dual degree student who will earn both a master's degree in social work and a master's degree in public health.

Tina Jefferson, a second-year graduate student from EAST HARTFORD, has been awarded the Frank V. Carollo Scholarship. She is majoring in administration with a minor in casework, and is currently employed as a social work supervisor in the Hartford regional office of the Department of Children and Families.

Margaret Dillon, a second-year graduate student from MANSFIELD CENTER, has been awarded the Nancy Tarr Berdon Scholarship. She is majoring in group work with a minor in research, and is actively involved in women's rights, empowerment and equal opportunities.

Alionye A. Odozi, a first-year graduate student from HAMDEN, has been awarded the Frank Carollo Scholarship. He is majoring in casework with a minor in community organization, and is also on the list of certified social workers for the state of Connecticut.
