Parsons, Kansas Resident Wins Academic Award

STORRS, Conn. -- Justin Cook of Parsons, Kansas, a starting linebacker on the University of Connecticut's football team, received the CPIA Award earlier this month for outstanding academic achievement. The award was presented during the 2001 UConn football banquet.

Presented by the Counseling Program for Intercollegiate Athletics, the award recognizes UConn student-athletes who excell in their sport and in the classroom. CPIA is the Division of Athletics' academic arm.

Cook, a linebacker from Parsons, Kansas, made the Dean's List in each of his five semesters at UConn. He achieved two perfect 4.0 grade point averages (Spring 2000, Spring 2001). With one semester remaining before graduation, he is carrying a 3.87 cumulative grade point average. A 4.0 is the highest GPA one can attain.

During the current semester, Cook has an internship at KPMG accounting firm in Hartford.
