STORRS, Conn.—  Some 300 freshmen at the University of Connecticut will be honored for their academic successes at the Alpha Lambda Delta (ALD) induction ceremony at 5 p.m. March 27, in the Lewis B. Rome Ballroom.

ALD is a national freshman honor society for exceptional scholars who have earned a grade point average of 3.5 or better, and are in the top 20 percent of their class, during their first year or term at the University. More than 1,000 students University-wide were eligible for the honor.

The society has more than 80 years of tradition honoring the best first-year students at more than 235 institutions of higher education. ALD’s mission is to encourage superior academic achievement… to promote intelligent living and a continued high standard of learning, and to assist students in recognizing and developing meaningful goals for their unique roles in society.

“We are excited to offer high achieving first-year students the opportunity to join Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society,” says David Ouimette, director of first-year programs. ALD at UConn will afford first-year students opportunities for scholarships, internships and leadership roles.

 “Undertaking the renewal of Alpha Lambda Delta has been a more overwhelming and fulfilling feat than I first imagined. I am astounded by the number of students who were proud enough of their accomplishments to join ALD,” said UConn Chapter President Kristin Brooks.
