STORRS, CT —   UConn sophomore Ryan Helmerich of Torrington, Conn. has been elected to a two-year term as a student director of the University of Connecticut Foundation Board of Directors.

His term of office begins in October.

The Foundation raises and oversees the investment of private gifts and financial resources for the benefit of all campuses and programs of the University of Connecticut. In his role as student director, Helmerich, class of 2010, will work with other Foundation Board members to oversee the planning and implementation of fundraising activities, investment of endowment and other assets, and development of administrative and financial policies for the Foundation.

Helmerich, who is looking to pursue a career in finance, is excited by the prospect of developing his skills and gaining new experience while working alongside fellow directors on the board, he said. In addition to participating in intramurals and a variety of other student activities on campus, he is employed on campus as a call center technician for ResNet, the University’s computer support service in the Residential Life Department.

The Foundation Board includes elected directors from corporations and community organizations, as well as other members from the University administration, faculty and student body. By design, this constituency reflects a broad spectrum of professional experience, skills and knowledge necessary to achieve the Foundation’s ambitious goals. Members volunteer their time, expertise and financial resources to promote UConn’s continued ascent among the top public research universities in the nation.
