UConn to sponsor Costal Perspectives lecture

GROTON, CT —  The Connecticut Sea Grant College Program, University of Connecticut’s Maritime Studies major and the Department of Marine Sciences at Avery Point will sponsor a Coastal Perspectives lecture series at UConn’s Avery Point campus beginning February 5.

All lectures will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Seminar Room 103 of the Marine Sciences Building, located at 1080 Shennecossett Road, Groton.

Speakers will include:

  • Feb. 5        The Stewart McKinney Refuge: Conserving Wildlife on the Connecticut Coast
    Richard Potvin, Manager, Stewart McKinney National Wildlife Refuge
  • Feb. 19      Fisheries Management Policy
    Seth Macinko, Assistant Professor, Department of Marine Affairs, University of Rhode Island.
  • March 4     Women in the Coast Guard
      Capt. Judith Keene, Commandant of Cadets,
      U.S. Coast Guard Academy
  • March 18   The History of Containerization -Trucking, Intermodalism, and The Global Economy
    Arthur Donovan. Emeritus Professor of History,U.S. Merchant Marine Academy
  • April 1        Coastal Habitat Restoration in Connecticut
    Harry Yamalis, Coastal Habitat Restoration Coordinator,Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection
  • April 15      Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary: Management Challenges for a Multiple Use Marine Protected Area
    Craig MacDonald, Superintendent, Stellwagen Bank Marine Sanctuary
