Lockwood was president of Trinity College in Hartford, Conn.
 
1971 Kingman Brewster, Jr.  
Brewster was president of Yale University.
 
1972 Homer D. Babbidge, Jr.  
Babbidge ended his ten years as UConn president in 1972 and made a brief run for governor. He also served as Masater of Yale's Timothy Dwight College and the Hartford Graduate Center.
 
1973 Charles E. Shain  
Shain was president of Connecticut College in New London, Conn.
 
1974 Glenn W. Ferguson  
Ferguson was UConn's president from 1973 to 1978.
 
1975 Jill Conway  
Conway, then president-elect ofSmith College, was the first woman to address a UConn commencement.
 
1976 Alexander Heard  
Heard was Chancellor of Vanderbilt University and chair of the Ford Foundation.
 
1977 Clifton R. Wharton, Jr.  
Wharton was the president of Michigan State University.
